live earth, live, earth, liveearth,Earth DayHow many years have you let Earth Day go by without doing something to celebrate it?  It seems that for many of us, Earth Day has been around since we were children and, while many people still plant a tree every couple of years, many more do nothing for Earth Day, which is sad, since there are so many inexpensive Earth Day celebrations for you and your family that are inexpensive and fun.

  • Plant a tree.  It sounds cliché, but many parks still celebrate Earth Day by reforesting their grounds.  Many parks now have programs in place where you can go back and revisit the trees you’ve planted in previous year to track their growth.  This is an especially way to involve your children in your efforts to become more eco-friendly.  You can help them to learn about how trees offset carbon emissions in the air and how cutting down a full grown tree can let off a ton of carbon at a time.  You can encourage children to find more eco-friendly shopping and furniture options.

  • Plant a sustainable, organic garden and involve your kids.  Teach them how healthy your veggies are going to be without using pesticides and encourage them to help you fight bugs with plantings.  By teaching children the value of growing their own organic and sustainable vegetables, you will be encouraging them to embrace a more eco-friendly lifestyle for not only themselves, but many generations to come.

  • Share the joy of earth day with your friends by giving them goodie bags of eco-friendly beauty products.  There are tons of really great eco-friendly lotions, soaps and make-ups available at reasonable prices now, so there is no reason not to introduce your friends and family to the joys of natural, organic, eco-friendly products that are easily biodegradable and sustainable.  You can often get little samples of these products, or, if you’re feeling generous, go ahead and give a full sized product.  Your friends and family will thank you, but might be wary.  Offer insight on how the eco-friendly products are made and packaged and their ingredients, so recipients of your gifts will be interested enough to try your Earth Day gift.

  • Prepare an organically grown, sustainable and locally grown/raised feast for friends and family this Earth Day.  You can often get locally grown organic produce from many of your local supermarkets.  Consider making a fully vegetarian dish, or if you have a local butcher or a natural supermarket, you can buy organic meats for a satisfying, organic meal that everyone will love.

No matter how you choose to celebrate Earth Day this year, you should make sure to do something for this special day, because the more people who acknowledge the Earth on this one day a year, the more people will begin living each day like it’s Earth Day.  You can find other great ideas online and in publications that you can use or change to fit your needs.  As long as your theme is to be eco-friendly and practice environmentally sound techniques, then you will be celebrating Earth Day the way it was meant to be celebrated.
