From now on it will be the weekly “Democratic Radio Address” in name only.
President-elect Barack Obama, capitalizing on his successful use of multimedia technologies during the campaign, delivered his message on Saturday using video as well as audio. It may seem like a political no-brainer in the age of YouTube, but as aides to Mr. Obama pointed out, it is a first for a president or president-elect.
In his address, which he recorded in Chicago on Friday, Mr. Obama focused on the country’s financial crisis, calling it — as he has before — “the greatest economic challenge of our times.”
Obama on Saturday urged Congress to get moving next week on an economic rescue plan that would extend jobless benefits among other actions. "If Congress does not pass an immediate plan that gives the economy the boost it needs, I will make it my first order of business as president," Obama said in his Democratic Party's weekly radio address. This radio address was also videotaped and being posted online through a YouTube link to Obama's transition Web site as well and Live Earth Campaign features the video as well.
