The election of an environmentally friendly Obama administration could not have come at a more crucial time for our country. For the past eight years, we have been the best legal defense against a hostile administration's assault on the environment.  Now, as we celebrate with millions of other Americans, we are presented with an opportunity to guide our country towards a clean energy future that will create jobs, strengthen our economy, and protect our communities and environment. And while we look forward to working with the new administration, we recognize that change does not happen by itself -- Earthjustice's role will remain as important as ever in ensuring that the new administration follows through on its promise to deliver America the clean energy future it deserves.

 Strategy for success
during the next administration

I. Pursue forward-looking litigation that will bring about stronger protections for our communities and the environment, especially in the area of clean energy

II. Keep the Bush administration in check as it attempts to drastically gut environmental regulations during its waning days in office, and work to undo the environmental harm that has taken place during the administration

III. Press forward on a number of active cases that are currently still in court, such as protecting roadless areas in our national forests for the public and wildlife, clearing the air in communities across the nation, and curbing oil and gas exploration in fragile Arctic environments

IV. Help the new Obama administration identify and focus on areas where urgent environmental action is needed most, and hold the administration accountable on its pledge to make environmental protection a top priority
