News - How To's

live earth,live,earth,liveearth,Eco-Friendly LingerieCould it really be true that there is eco-friendly lingerie?  How do you know if your undergarments are eco-friendly?  Most of the most popular brands of pretty undergarments that we buy worldwide are not only not environmentally friendly, but they could be hazardous to you.

Most of the garments that we wear closest to our skin are the garments that contain the most harmful dyes and bleaches and are the most harmful to the environment.  Pretty panties made with toxic bleach?  You bet and what about the fabrics that are used to make this lovely lingerie?

So, enough about the big scaries, lets talk about what you can do to become more eco-friendly in even your lingerie purchases.  The beautiful thing is that there are some really nice alternatives to traditional lingerie that you can look for.

? Fabrics made of bamboo.  Bamboo, when spun for things like lingerie and finer tops are soft and silky.  Before now, bamboo fabric was made by weaving, which caused a more linen-like fabric, but recent advances in technology allow this totally renewable resource that requires no help to grow plentifully to be processed in a lighter, softer way.  Which is great news for your eco-friendly lingerie.
? Organic cotton fabrics.  While organic cotton isn’t nearly as eco-friendly as some of it’s more sustainable counterparts, at least you won’t be unnecessarily exposed to pesticides.  The problem with organic cotton is that it still requires a lot of water to grow properly, but new ways are being developed to use grey water irrigation systems or a soaker-type system, which helps organic cotton to grow nicely.
? Wool that hasn’t been treated for pests.  While much of the wool we use has come from sheep that have been dipped to prevent bugs, such as fleas, from infesting their wool, there are new ways being developed to prevent dipping, which is much easier on the sheep and the farmers who raise them.  This is great news for you if you love the look of sweaters, which is a fun new trend for winter lingerie.
? Organic silk is also a great, but pricey trend.  New techniques have allowed for you to have beautiful, eco-friendly silk lingerie and not have to suffer the guilt of wearing silk.  If you have the extra money, this is a truly indulgent eco-friendly lingerie pick, so go ahead and indulge in soft, silky eco-friendly lingerie made of organic silk.

With all the fabulous new eco-friendly lingerie options, it’s hard to believe that you would still stick with your traditional lingerie with pesticides and harmful bleaches in it.  Take a look or two at your options.  Depending on how much money you’re accustomed to spending on your lingerie, these new eco-friendly options can seem a bit expensive at first, but with time, the costs should go down and maybe if we’re lucky, these eco-friendly lingerie options should become more readily available with a little time.
