Credited as being one of the first reformers of environment science, Carson did not lay her concerns with the polar ice-caps melting or the core temperature of the earth rising; but rather the effects that DDT had on the ecosystem. Her book raised concern and solved a major problem. While the problem only threatened individuals on the community level, it became the number one concern for many.
