Environmental Change Live EarthGlobal warming has definitely become a major concern for both individuals and governments around the world. Climate change threatens our sense of society and possibly most of human civilization. There are many speculations about the condition of our world as our environment changes for the worse. Some of the conditions seem so far fetch that they fit in the Book of Revelations. Others seem like they are to nothing more than a thorn in the side. Either way, we will need to adapt if our climate keeps changing like it is.  One major change we will face will be the conditions of our maps. The earth’s surface is always changing. The tectonic plates continuously pull our continents away from one another while they erect long mountain ranges. The lakes can turn into seas while luscious rain forest can transform into desert landscape. Our earth is always changing. Maps could become unrecognizable.

According to scientific research and projection maps of the National Geographic, global warming will have numerous effects on our environment and society. Here are some examples you can find on the interactive projection map. If global warming continues and the average temperature was to rise one degree, we could see hurricanes in the southern part of the Atlantic, species extinction and the formation of a new desert in America. If the temperature was to raise two degrees then we would see natural water disappear in the Andes, Europe will be plagued with extensive heat waves and India will have severe monsoon flooding. The global warming projection map can go up to six degrees in which the world seems like a alien planet.

Even though some of these results may seem drastic and devastating, we do not need to look to the future to see the negative effects. Global warming results are all around us today. Look at the artic. Much of the ice is retreating. The water does not stay frozen as long as it did before the rise in temperature and global warming. This has resulted to two noticeable events. First, polar bears are starting to come extinct. They have been moved on to the endangered species list. Sailors have found polar bears in the ocean who swam and could not find ice or land.

To me, there seems to be no clear benefit to global warming. People from West Virginia will not enjoy their beach front property when all the major eastern sea coast cities are underwater. People in New England will not enjoy being the new bread basket of America when the Midwest states are facing severe droughts. There are many signs around us that this is going to continue to get worse if we do not move to reduce our output on the environment.

The global warming crisis is an issue that is not going away. People need to understand that humanity as a whole is responsible for these consequences. If any thing, the current situation might motivate people to start thinking about their community, county and planet. By putting these three things before ourselves we might be able to avoid the predictions made by scientific projections.
