Whether we’re dealing with a drought in the West or South, tornadoes in the Midwest or floods across the Northeast and Europe, if you ask anyone if there are current environmental issues, more and more are beginning to say yes. More than yes, people all across the world are beginning to take a look at our planet’s current environmental issues and the world is starting to take note.
Sure, we all cling to our gas-guzzling, carbon spitting SUV’s. Yes, we think it’s cool to fly in a plane that dumps tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses? The larger your house, the more carbon your house puts out. Yes, folks, you pollute the environment just from staying warm. And bathing. And cleaning your clothing.
Where do we start when trying to identify current environmental issues? Common sense would dictate that we identify the most major of the current environmental issues and we start to fix them first.
- Current Environmental Issue #1: Greenhouse gasses are causing global warming. Yes, folks, this is true. Global warming is causing extreme weather all over the globe. Okay, so it may be getting colder in some areas than warmer, but this is an effect of the jet stream in the Arctic Ocean becoming stagnant. When the jet stream doesn’t move, the climate isn’t able to properly cool and warm. Hence, global warming. The icebergs in the north are beginning to melt and people don’t believe it. A great cure for this environmental issue is to begin by requiring a dramatic decrease from every major world wide city of emissions. Cars, trucks, busses, planes, factories and homes all need to be restructured as soon as possible to eliminate as much of the emissions of these items as possible.
- Current Environmental Issue #2: Depletion of rainforests. Rainforests are in mostly poor, underdeveloped countries. Every year, the governments of those countries tear down and destroy more rainforest to put in things like coffee farms. When a tree dies, it releases more carbon dioxide than most cars. There is becoming too much carbon dioxide for the trees that are still standing to consume, and we’re running into a problem. Even with reforestation projects, we’re not only losing our planet’s most plentiful source of fresh air, we’re losing valuable eco systems and species that can never be replaced. This current environmental issue can be resolved by encouraging companies to adopt more eco friendly business practices.
While this is just a listing of two current environmental issues, the list goes on and on. If we continue to do our part at home and purchase products and encourage business who embrace more of an eco-friendly attitude, we will begin to cure some of these current environmental issues. Who knows if we’ll be able to do enough before it’s too late, but if we don’t try something, these environmental issues are going to be the undoing of humanity.
