Wow, I had never heard about this disorder before. I guess not seeing that movie is one reason why, hehe.

I did see that kid's flick, Bee Movie. I never really thought about what the world would be like without bees. Would we just have to do manual pollination? Is that even possible?

That's really neat!! Geez, I wonder how accurate it is? And what have they found in the Bermuda Triangle? I'd love to see that!

Starting a tote bag business is a fantastic idea! You should pat your mom on the back for that one.

totelover.com appears to be available still. A rarity these days! I wish you the best of luck!

Post Re: Energy conservation
by gardengrow22 on 02/03/2009 16:56

I've heard that unplugging your tv and stuff at night will drastically reduce your energy bills but... I have to admit.. I have a DVR. It kind of defeats the purpose to turn it off at night when it's supposed to be on recording things for me watch! lol

I'd love to hear suggestions for alternate ways to save.

That's a very interesting way to save energy. Please update us all on how that goes! Maybe I'll even try it myself a few nights just to see how well I cope.

Post Re: Overpopulation problem, except Japan
by gardengrow22 on 02/03/2009 16:49

I'd be curious to see what effect the "one child" policy in China had upon their country's population. I'd guess that the policy has greatly helped their government to expand their country's various economic and environmental causes.

Still, at what cost? Did they anticipate their female population dwindling so much? Maybe you don't want too many people, but you can't have any people in a country full of men. Will they eventually have to require the women to have MANY children to help stave off this other problem??

Post A better fuel at last?
by gardengrow22 on 02/03/2009 16:44

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/02/090202174934.htm

"Total environmental and health costs of gasoline are about 71 cents per gallon, while an equivalent amount of corn-ethanol fuel costs from 72 cents to about $1.45, depending on the technology used to produce it. An equivalent amount of cellulosic ethanol, however, costs from 19 cents to 32 cents, depending on the technology and type of cellulosic materials used."

This sounds great in numbers to a person like me who doesn't really understand much science, but I'm still curious to know how they determined this cost to human health and environment.

I wonder how long it will be until this fuel is made commercially available. Will it ever be?

Post Spread the word!
by gardengrow22 on 02/03/2009 16:35

I keep coming back, but do not see very much response among users, yet our userbase continues to grow. Please spread the word to friends about this site so that we can see increased discussion about green topics. The more we talk about it, the more activity we will see. In turn, this will increase awareness.

Although the use of computers exhausts energy, the Internet is still an extremely valuable tool to communicate with vast amounts of individuals about this very important area of interest.

I will do my part by posting relevant articles for people to discuss.

cheerio, try to look at this as a learning experience, not as a project. If you come in with that attitude you'll probably take away a lot less than you could.

Post Introductions
by gardengrow22 on 01/26/2009 13:52

Hi everyone,

Since this place still looks relatively new, I wanted to start a thread that will get everyone briefly acquainted with each other. Here is my introduction:

My name is Chuck, I'm a 26 year old man from Delaware, USA. I've recently become very interested in growing my own vegetables, so I'll probably be posting in the Organic section a lot.
